My T2 VW (59 reg.) campervan wouldn't start. A local mechanic came out and installed a new battery and plugs. The van still wouldn't start because of the immobiliser. Danbury say I need to transport the van to them and the parts alone will cost between £200 and £600 depending on the damage. Any advice?

have you tried using a different key?
you havnt dropped your main key haveyou?and maybe lost the transponder from it?

I assume it happened because the battery was changed (the mechanic seemed surprised that there was an immobiliser).
There may have been a problem with the relay between the main starter and leisure battery which, added to the cold, damp weather, drained all the power out of both (I only use the van a couple of days a week during the winter).
I gave the mechanic the spare key to try without success but he disconnected the battery again (on Thursday) so I haven't been able to try it myself and I haven't seen him since! I was hoping there might be some really simple knack to getting it mobilised again.
