In what order do I paint?

Im new to decorating and have been told there is a order in which to paint. I am painting ceiling, walls, paintwork, door where should I start?
Should I rub down the paint? what sort of sandpaper should I use?

Yes, fill in any holes in the walls, sand to flat when dry, rub down any exisitng painted woodwork, doors, window frames, skirting, architraves. Clean up throughly, with either water or white spirit depending on what kind of paint is being applied, then Top to bottom, ceiling, walls, skirting (and architraves and windows frames) ..... Well very nearly top to bottom.

Thanks scoops, its obvious really if you think about it inst it. Trouble is for 30yrs I have only been "allowed" to paint bits that do not show, or too awkward to get to. B & Q here I come.
 
No probs, enjoy yourself, don't buy cheap paint!! Oh sandpapaer, buy an assortment, fine for keying already painted surfaces, medium for sanding filled in holes initially, then down to fine for final flattening.

Once all prep is done, I've always started painting workwork first, then emulsion last, as emulsion is easier to get off gloss paint than vice versa.
