Increasing water pressure

Does anyone know if it is possible to increase the water pressure in a house. Watering the garden or washing the car is hopeless as once the water comes out the end of the hose it's a mere trickle.

The cold tap in your kitchen should be mains fed. This should be sufficient for watering the garden or washing the car.
