Drum stopped going round so took back off and the wheel attached to the back of the drum that has the belt on has what looks like soot on it.

No burning smell so took belt off and it looks ok, any ideas what the problem could be... thanks in advance

the fine black dust is probably carbon from the motor brushes, they slowly wear away. This also causes the motor to stop working so it no longer turns the drum. Sometimes it gets erratic before it completely stops.

It is one of the easiest repairs to do, to fit new motor brushes, so even if it turns out you have some different fault, it is worth a try.

WOW... what a fast response, thank you.

That makes sense, for a couple of weeks now the cycle has been stopping mid cycle so sounds like it might be the brushes. I've just had a quick look on you tube and looks relatively easy to change them.

After some further advise please...

I've changed the brushes as the old ones were worn right down. Drum now turning but is making a whirring sound and when it got to spin cycle it struggled to go round. Have turned it off.

Any ideas...

Update.... Spin is working but keeps causing the machine to stop and lights to flash. Any ideas what might be causing these things.
