Indesit wd125 Washing Machine Tripping electrics

We have an indesit 125 washing machine. When it is turned on it immediately trips out the RCD switch on the fuse box.

It even trips out when the machine is off but the wall plug socket is turned on.

Am I right in thinking it is an earth problem?

How do I go about finding where the fault is and fixing it?

if you dont have a mega or meter you will have to start unpluging bits ie motor /heater/ mains surpreeser till it stops tripping.
