Infrared thermometer giving duff readings!

If by cycle you mean the fan goes quiet and it burns less gas then yes it does that when it reaches about 55 degrees.

I think the primary thermo might be faulty so i plan on changing that as it's on £15 or so.

On the co2 level problem, worcester bosch are claiming that it must be the gas valve but e installer rekons that a load of b*****s.

Will look at those boilers. Thanks

So i followed your guidance and the highest temperature reading i've managed to get from the primary flow is 65 degrees. This reding was taken with the boiler on maximum. Its a worcester bosch 24ri and it's about three years old.

Thanks for your input though.

So you dont know what model of boiler you have fitted as its in fact a 15 Ri.

It was fitted by someone cheaply and he does not seem to have a flue gas analyser. He has no idea about how boilers work or are set up.

You them have someone come out, not clear exactly who but he still needed advice from Worcester.

He cannot set up the boiler properly and cannot apparently work out whats wrong.

200ppm is the concentration of CO in the flue gases!

I think that you need someone who knows what they are doing. Unfortunately you have demonstrated by searching for a substandard, but cheap, installer that you did not want to pay for a competent professional.

So what are you going to do next?

Tony

PS

Properly installed and set up and maintained, Worcester are perfectly fine boilers!

But that presupposes a competent installer and services.

You already seem to realise that smart pumps and auto bypasses do not sit well together. Its usually possible to set the pumps to be less smart and minimise the problems.

The guy who came around this morning was an installer recommended by WB. The guy who fitted my boiler was a corgi registered plumber though probably not a boiler fitter.

If a WB installer can't work it out and WB are washing their hands of it then i'm going to have to buy a new boiler and have it installed by the seller so liability sits on one place.

True i was trying to save a bit of money asa things where very difficult for me at the time and clearly i have paid the ultimate price. What can i do except replace the boiler. I'll be dammed if i'm going to pay WB 300 when their registered installer can't diagnose with their help for £100.

I think you are missing the point!

A WB installer is someone who has to fit at least 50 of their boilers a year. Thats the only criteria to become an "approved installer". They dont need ANY experience of repairing boilers.

They are usually primarily installers and NOT experts at repairing or setting up boilers. You need a competent boiler engineer who specialises in repairs and fully understands how they work.

Its far cheaper to pay £300 to Worcester if you cannot ( or dont want to find a competent boiler repairer ) than to pay about £1600 to have a new boiler properly installed.

But its your £1600 so in the end its up to you what you choose to do.

Okay, so i've just paid booked a repair and care plan with WB. They'll send one of their pro's to fix on saterday then cover me for a year. Can't afford a £170 service as well but i would hope that it will be fine once the boiler's been repaired ( this will probably bite me in the a** also).

So what turned out to be an investigation into a chettering noise coming from my sytem has ended up being;

The removal of a check valve = £25
A new modulating pump = £90 (wasn't necessary but desirable, auto function is crap however)
A taconova flowsetter =£35 (again not necessary but nice to know flow rate)
A boiler inspection =£100 (resolving didly squat)
A repair and care plan =£300

i should have just bought some headphones!

Mr boiler repair man saved the day. It turns out that the gas valve was faulty. Flow temperatures are reaching 82 now!

Thanks for everybody's help.

That's excellent news, and a welcome conclusion I'm sure!

Dare I say it is also a lesson learnt that one shouldn't be so quick to blame ones tools?! ;)
