single-brick thick

you mean it is 9 inches thick?

or 4?

BTW after you have levelled and spaced the frame with wedge packers, and screwed it, you can inject expanding foam into the gap. It holds it rigid, prevents it shaking or wobbling, blocks draughts, and glues it into position.

it is very sticky and expands out of the gap. I found best results by taping clingfilm to both sides of the wall and frame (not the meeting surfaces) and injecting through holes drilled in an architrave, or temporary batten. You need to protect it from sunlight once set as it degrades. Paint, silicone or architrave will do. You can trim excess with a serrated knife, once hard.
