Installing a Plasterboard Ceiling

Hi,

Probably a very basic question? but is it neccessary to put noggins along the joint edge of each plasterboard sheet to support the edges? my joist spacing is 400mm and the boards are 12.5mm and I intend(ed) to run the plasterboard lengthwise across the joists meaning that the unsupported board edges will be 350mm?.

Also, what is the screw spacing to use?
