I,m in the process of having my single storey garage converted into a bedroom & en-suite. I,m planning to install 230v downlights, however the builder is installing kingspan insulation in the ceiling - can anyone advise me if i can still install downlights etc?? if so do i need to install smoke hoods if they are fire rated downlights? or just leave some clearance?

I,m puzzled by this as years ago they didn't put this kingspan type of material in the roof!!

Any help please?

i had the same problem when fitting downlights in a kitchen extension, i left clarence but the lights didn't last long so i replaced them all with 16 LED downlights lights, the only problem now is they don't give out the same brightness so i need to instal a few more.
