I want to install a shower in a hut using rainwater collected in an underground tank and powered by a generator. Does anyone know the best shower to get & will I also need a water pump?

Time to wade in, pardon the pun!

:!: Warning, I have no practical experience of a setup like this :!:

OK.... I assume the shower is above the underground tank... can you fit a tank above the level of the shower?

and powered by a generator.

Is this a wind generator, diesel / petrol generator or something entirely different? What's the electrical power output?

Not easily - it's collecting rainwater from a pitched roof which is much lower than the shower level.

We are buying a 2.5- 3kw petrol generator. This is not powerful enough to run a domestic electric shower, it will power a pump easily - I think my problem is heating the water and controlling that heat?

er how ya gonna clean the water first?????

Probably the simplest thing would be to boil the kettle and fill a watering can!

If you are wanting to have a pumped shower, with only 3kw available you will have to find a way to install a hot water cylinder and pump. I suspect it will take a lot of petrol to heat the cylinder.

Like glasgowgas says you will need to clean the water, both for hygiene and to avoid damage to the pump and shower.

Good luck...

...I think you'll need it!

Thanks for the luck.

They manage hot water showers on boats and in caravans, so I reckon I can figure out a way to make it work. A simple water filter will keep the water clean enough, and I'm thinking that the best way to heat the water is by LPG and then use the genny to pump it to the shower head.

Maybe I'll end up with a watering can tied to a tree - but not for want of trying other options.

why would you want to shower in a HUT when you could SkWOT in an empty tenament and fiddle the leccy, its too late im goin to bed by folks
