My old gas back boiler has packed up and am considering a combi/condensing one.

Are the so called "Instant" boilers with a pre heater such as:

Baxi 80HE Instant or
VOKERA SYNTESI 25e

Much better than non instant. I just remember at my friends' house wiith a combi boiler having to wait ages to get any hot water!

Do they do what they say on the tin?

The boilers have to turn on for a few seconds every 15 min or so. This uses fuel and makes a noise!

The preheat saves perhaps 10-15 seconds which is an expensive but useful luxury if you are always pressed for time.

The greatest delay is still usually the length of pipe to the tap. Lagging this is cheap and saves fuel and often means you get almost instant hot water from the last time it was used.

I hope the latest Baxi does not still use the ex vessel as its store!
