We have inherited a 25 yr old LPG Aga. Has been serviced annually and seems to work OK, apart from it is very hot on top. Aga say you can top up the vermiculite insulation, they estimated £400 with a service.

Can you do it yourself? They sell the vermiculite for £40 a bag.

Any other hints for making it more efficient?

Many thanks, D

If you look at the burner flame through the viewing gas and its got yellow flames near the top and there isn't clearly defined blue cones on the gas burner then it needs to be serviced, at that point get the insulation topped up. Its pretty easy to top up the insulation but probably best left to an experienced engineer thats worked on agas as he'd spot any problems.
