I intend to use standard grey pipe insulation to prevent heat loss from the pipes joined to and surrounding our hot water tank. As these pipes get quite hot is there any fire risk??

No fire risk at all, otherwise they wouldn't make it.

I have put a blowlamp on it once, all it did was melted it and not catch alight.
