Hi all,
I am looking to convert a disused chapel into a dwelling. There is some confusion over whether I will be forced to insulate the walls, which are red brick Flemish Bond. The problem with this is that the rebate around the numerous original arched hardwood doors and windows is not sufficient to take materials such as Celotex - and I have concerns about the damp issues potentially created in period buildings by dry lining, as well as hating the square box effect that is the end result. As I intend introducing serious insulation to roof and floors, and will probably re-glaze the windows with Pilkington Spacia, I would hope BC would let me off also insulating the walls.......am I in cloud cuckoo??? If I am, a possibility is to re plaster the internal walls with either Thermopor insulating plaster or Diathonite Insulating Plaster to a depth of 25-30mm.....does anyone have experience of these materials? What is the cost? Does the spraying technique work? Can you really leave the Thermopor unpainted?
All help much appreciated!
