Hi all,

I have recently purchased a holiday chalet that has PVC external walls under the windows. Think very wide PVC door with a solid panel bottom halves.

I am wanting to build a timber framed false wall on the inside as I am having all the internal walls reskimmed. The false wall will be insulated and topped with nice shelf/cill so that it looks a bit more normal. My question is what type of insulation should I put in the cavity between the plasterboard front and the PVC external wall?

Many thanks.

Rip it out and build a new wall?

You should have a nice smooth regular surface so sticking PIR to it should be easy and you can get a perfect airtight seal. Then you can build your stud wall right up against it.

You could build the stud wall against the PVC and infill the gaps, but the wood let's hear out and you can get stripes due to the cold bridging.
