Hello,

I have had an extension built with bifolds along two elevations coming together to a steel corner post on which the RSJ's sit/are fixed.

The corner post is inset from the outside line of the bifolds and i need to insulate the corner post befroe the outer flashing/cladding goes on. Can you advise what the best insulation for such purposes would be? Are PIr insulation boards stuck to the steel post sufficient? Also, provided the insulation boards have a foil layer on them, will this prevent condensation on the steel post?

I also need to stick some insulation in where the post goes down below the level of the bifold frames - what would be best down this gap? I understand expanding foam can retain moisture so this would rot the steel over long time?

Some pics/drawings attached to show arrangement.

This might be one of those times where aerogel justifies its high price.

Why do people get to this situation without a drawing or idea in sight? As above probably but the devils in the detailing.
