Insulating Victorian Roof

Hi,

We have a Victorian Terraced house with what appears to be the original lath and plaster 'insulation' still on the attic roof. I'd like to remove this and replace it with some modern insulation. There's about 4 inches between the current lath and the slate. Could someone suggest a suitable method of insulating this type of roof?
