Am plannign to replace the internal cladding around our bay window (currently t&g and was planning to create panelling to match the window shutters).
I know from previous repairs that there is no insulation within the bay - basically it consists of solid stone wall, gap, then framing and wooden t&g. There is also a vent in the bay, so it does get cold in the winter.
Was thinking of when i reframe for the new cladding, of installing rigid foam or polystyrene insulation in the framing. Do I need to include a vapour barrier? if so, on what side of the insulation.
Also, am unsure if there is any benefit over rigid foam to polystyrene?
Was planning to use either mdf or ply for the new cladding and create the panel effect on this - i presume that ply would be more stable but would I get a good paint finish on this?
The vent will remain clear which feed into the floor void.
