Should I ensure nothing touches the external wall to avoid bridging dpc, or shove some insulation along the edge?

We just sprayed expanding foam along the edges. If you don't insulate it's important to make sure no air can blow through the gaps.

as you have good access, you can stuff mineral wool down those gaps. Pack it tightly. If there is a risk of damp, I think it is preferable to expanding foam, which I have seen sodden when removing roofs.

Incidentally, I've recently turned to using the pink fire expanding foam (intumescent). I happened to get some for round the linings of fire doors, and on consideration it seems worthwhile on gaps round ducts, ceilings, floors etc.

pull it out, that stuff could get damp/wet

use the waterproof lined stuff + leave small air gap

edit -unless its upstairs or there's already a cavity/space underneath & its a bone dry area
