We have a troublesome intercept trap on 30s house my son has just bought. It is like a loo trap but in the outlet of the manhole just before the main sewer. Fortunately there is a rodding acceess just 3 inches above which is acting like an overflow but this means there is 3 inches of static water in the drain when the intercept gets blocked. We had it cleared and jetted but it seems to get blocked within a few days. Surely it must have worked originally - so what's wrong ?

Anybody found a solution ? - otherwise we may have to have the trap taken out or bypassed.

see what's blocking it. It's often the plug that used to be in the rodding eye.

have come across this at least twice recently. both times we dug out the offending intercepter and spliced in a straight run.

What`s the problem with a bit of standing water in the channel  There are millions of interceptors like that.....throwing away the bung was the standard fix........if it then works fine ,leave it alone and save your £££ ;)

you said it got blocked within a few days... often if you have a blockage, you get back-up of solids in the pipes upstream. When you clear the original blockage, the first few baths will wash the back-ups along, and they may cause another blockage, so you may need to poke it a few times to keep it clear while any accumulations wash away.

Alternatively you may need to identify anyone throwing undesirable objects down the loo and stop them.

If the drain dont block and fill the manhole to the brim ...leave it alone ....why make ****rod more money  :LOL:grudgingly concedes that John was right again

hee hee!

We are really a board of professional builders and surveyors posting under a fake name

Thanks guys - I reckon it was blocked for aout 10 years before we bought the house as it had sand & rubble in it. It's only because we had a survey that we found out about the interceptor.

We'll see how it goes.
