Hi,

Another post on this forum suggests the following 3 core wiring for mains inter linked smoke/heat alarms:

Brown = live,
Grey with Blue sleeve = Neutral,
Black sleeved brown = interlink.

but, kiddie suggest here:

"in the three core and earth are:
Brown = phase live;
Black = neutral;
Grey = Interconnect"

If wiring is properly sleeved then possible future errors will be reduced, but what is the consensus on how to wire the interlink etc?

Thanks,

lu

Take a sensible approach, its not massively important, then the next competent person to work on the smokes will have no problem to see how things are connected.

I take it you have both brown and blue sleeving?

Providing the cables are identified it does not really matter, but be logical.
Brown core phase/live.
The black and grey can be either neutral or interlink, just make sure they are the same throughout.
I would normally follow manufacturers instructions.
But the opinion is that the grey cable is nearer to the blue(neutral) cable in colour, so is often used as the neutral. Just make sure they are sleeved accordingly.
