Hi,
A number of my interior doors when closed seem to have a lot of 'give' in them.

When I hold the handle of the closed door and pull and push, it moves quite a bit backward and forward.

What is the cause of this please?

You need to prise off the door stops and re-attach them 1-2mm off the face of the door when closed. You will probably need to touch up the paintwork afterwards.

Or, far easier, you could unscrew the keep or staple (the metal part in the frame that the latch clicks into) and move it a fraction. You may need to plug the old screw holes. it is even possible that it is loose or has worn or moved, or the latch might have worn loose.

Take the old keep to your DIY shed and see if you can get a latch with a keep which is a slightly larger or different shape as its screw holes may be in a different place.

If you are very lazy, you could just stick a bit of rubber foam draught excluder to the door stop to hold the door out a bit.
