I have builders just start lifting from wood flooring and being told that they found a nail had been put through one of the gas pipes. Is this really possible that I have been living in a flat for 9 years with a nail through a gas pipe? Any advice on if he's trying to inflate cost or if this could be legit. Thanks

Yes it is possible to have a nail in a gas pipe with no problems
or gas smell for nine years.

Turn off your gas at the emergency valve at the meter and call
in a registered gas fitter to investigate and put right if required.

Don't let the builder do any work on it at all unless he can prove
to you he is Gas Safe registered.

Well, the builders just went ahead and did the work to reroute damaged gas pipe. they are now quoting an extra £800 for the new gas supply, sheeting wall and plastering wall. But with this and boarding and plaster I think 800 is a bit excessive. Any advice please. The plasterer will be in doing other walls in the house, this additional wall is about 25 foot length and maybe about 7 foot high.

Copper pipe?
A half hour repair using a couple of slip sockets that takes 5 mins to make from a standard sockets.

Thats how builders get rich.

They have no right to do any work without your agreement.

Most customers agree because they think they are the only builders on the planet.

If you must choose pay then at least get the cost independently assessed.
