Pretty simple question. If an internal load bearing wall is removed and replaced with a steel lintel, can one end support for the lintel be replaced with a steel post? I'd like to avoid the usual brick supporting pier interrupting the wall line. The supporting floor is concrete slab.

I don't know if a pier is required, have to admit being quite ignorant on this aspect. I will ask a structural engineer we know.

If the beam is not on a corner, then there's a very good chance that no pier is required.

Otherwise a post will do the same as a pier.
