Hi guys,

Just built a block internal wall and need to render and skim it, i have been looking in the building forum but it would seem that nobody can agree on the correct mix for the render.

Am i looking at a 5:1 ratio of plastering sand and cement with a waterproof additive ???

I would recommend using hardwall or browning rather than rendering inside.

renders can be rather rigid. some will crack.

use a weaker cement mix but use lime too.

a safer bet is to use l.w.r. or browning.

Why is that then, is there any reason for that decision ???

As Noseall says but also that gypsum under coat is easier to use and better for taking (and retaining) gypsum finish coats.

Hardwall is the way to go, let it firm up then skim it same day....

Yeh Roy i have used hardwall on several occasions, sucks up a lot of moisture though so have to wet and pva it properly.
