internal walls

I'm looking to do a loft extension and have received a couple of quotes from some structural engineers. The property inquestion is a block built bungalow with blockwork internal walls. the SE's are telling me that I need to verifiy if the internal block walls are built off the slab or on a foundation.
How do I find this out?
