I was left the plans for my house by the previous owner, in them they show "span of floor joists" as a Z shape, how do I interpret this? In some rooms the Z is shown in a different direction to the adjacent room, does this mean the joists go the other way?

thanks, so is it just there to show the direction, or is there more info such as measuring the length of the line give the span/spacing? why are the ends at an angle, just convention?

Just to show direction.
Nothing to do with measurement.
Kack handed way of drawing an arrow on end of the line.
We have a SE who we feel sure gets a perverted pleasure doing it this way.
