Getting back to the Britony boiler repair, ChrisR or whoever might appreciate being reminded that the Britony combi 80 is virtually identical to the Baxi Genesis 80. The relevance of this is that the servicing manual for the Genesis is a good deal more user friendly than the Britony one, so it might be worth getting hold of one (Partsarena?).
I know the Britony quite well, but I'm nowhere near SW London. It sounds like ignition problem - I once had one of these with a venturi blocked by a spider's nest but I don't think it would even attempt ignition if it was this. Spark generator can be a weak point and may need replacing.
While your looking at the boiler, it's always worth checking the heating return filter which is tucked away inside the plastic return manifold on the end of the copper bend. AAVs are prone to leak, DHW flow switch prone to fail, diverter prone to stick (there's a knack to removing diverter).
Have fun.
