Is a washing machine drum supposed to be solidly attached to the drive pulley?

I'm pretty sure the answer is "yes". But mine isn't any more.

Mid spin it started making a lot of noise. Once it had stopped it won't now turn the drum. I've got the back off and I can turn the drum by hand without the drive pulley moving. And I can move the drum up and down without the outer drum moving. I don't think that's normal, or repairable other than a complete new drum but if anyone can confirm?

I would imagine the ‘drive spider’ has gone awol, unfortunately.....its the device that connects the pulley drive to the drum.
