Hi,

I've got an out building 3m away from my house (The room has power going from the consumer unit to a unit in the out building fitted with an RCD - there are seperate circuits for the sockets and lights).

The cabling is 4mm T and E and goes from the CU through the wall along an outisde wall and into the building.

My question is, is the current cabling satisfactory? I know that if buried it should be SWA but does it have to be if its not buried? It's not as if someone would accidently drill into it or cut it. Would plastic/metal conduit work be exceptable if it does need protecting?

The reason i ask is that i'm planning on replastering the room and would like to get it fixed (if needed) before i start.
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

T&E outside is not ideal especially if exposed to direct sunlight because the sheath is not UV stable.

T&E in black PVC conduit is fine for running along an outside wall. Make sure the conduit system has drain holes in appropriate places so any moisture that gets inside can get out.
