I applied a mist coat to the ceiling today and didnt take too much notice of feathering in a lot. Meaning I did feather in but only a little resulting in lines still visible on the ceiling.

I was under the impression that feathering is more important on 2nd and 3rd coat

is this correct?

I'd say yes, your mist-coat is much thinner so it soaks in well and you're unlikely to get big lumps of paint unless you're really sloshing it about. Mist coats normally look awful anyway and it can be a worry that the finish won't look too good - just wait till you get the next coat on and you can relax!

Worth diluting your subsequent coats by 10-15%, this helps you keep a wet edge and reduces roller marks - don't be tempted to go back and touch up an area that is still drying (you'll get a horrible roller mark) - generally the offending patch disappears when dry - if not the next coat will do it.

well my first coat was thinned with approx 35% water as advised by a few on here. Blimey it looked like a nutritional milk drink lol but damn did my roller soak that stuff up or what
