I've been asked to make a FAQ on the above subject in order to put this topic out of its misery! :D

I would be grateful if members could provide HARD FACTS, LINKS to sites etc in order to get this as accurate and definitive as possible.

Only members who hold (or have held ACS in the past) or Corgi Reg fitters or members familiar with the law on this subject, need apply.

I would be grateful if MOD 10 can look in on this and delete what should not be used.

Let the show begin!

Hi DD

I am not looking for opinions whether self interested or not!

I would like the legal definition i.e Corgi's or HSE's stance and links to statements etc so that people will know how they stand legally.

I hope this topic will stay civil and conclusive.

Thanks :D

I think the most important issue to be included is to state the legal definition of "competent"

Best of luck. :wink:

It's all here in the sticky, isn't it?

The key part of the law referred to there (GSIUR) is in 26.9 :

9) Where a person performs work on a gas appliance he shall immediately thereafter examine -

  • (a) the effectiveness of any flue;
    (b) the supply of combustion air;
    (c) its operating pressure or heat input or, where necessary, both;
    (d) its operation so as to ensure its safe functioning
,

(d) means all the safety controls.

So, a minimum requirement required for COMPETENCE would be to be able to satisfy an ACS assessor on those basics? If you can't, the answer's NO.

The ACS man would want to see that you knew the requirements, were able to satisfy them, determine and perform tests for effectiveness, and understand how they work.

No you've got it wrong again driveller.

Saying DIY gas work is legal is like saying that driving at 100mph is legal.
It's only legal for some people, sometimes. (Emergency services in some circumstances).

WHat you're saying is dangerous and shows your ignorance and total lack of objectivity - yet again.

its legal if you can prove you are competent and i was told the only way your gonna do that is pass the acs
Exactly what i was just about to say!

Competency is proven by passing ACS assessment. How many DIYers could pass this without training?

Working for GAIN, or PAYMENT or MONEY
are not phrases which you'll find in the law. Driveller is drivelling again.
Building Regs are silent on who does gas work. Driveller is drivelling again.
GSIUR is LAW. Driveller is drivelling again.

Dr

You are not backing your statements up with any evidence.

Please do so or refrain from the topic.

Thanks :D
