No unless there are deep holes to fill, the base coat will block it all out.
When the masonry background is stripped & exposed why not post a pic of the elevation?
Sometimes, esp in old property, its necessary & best practice to partially or fully point up before rendering.
Its occasionally necessary to replace individual or patch brickwork.
