I had to remove the metal power steering pipe from my car as it was leaking badly and I am waiting to get a replacement..

meanwhile I have other jobs to do on car such as find a fuel leak so is it okay if I start the engine of my car without touching the steering wheel
and without driving it without it damaging the power steering pump as it has no power steering fluid in it due to removing the pipe.
Car is a 2010 Mercedes-Benz e350
3.0 v6

If the ps pump is driven by the engine, no. It’ll píss out all your ps fluid in no time flat.

It has no power steering fluid in as i took pipe off.. I mean would it cause any damage to the power steering pump if I start engine without touching the steering wheel I ain't bothered if it loses any additional psf

My gut feeling is no. The pump may still be driven, but it won't have any fluid in it to propel. I can't see how that could lead to damage. It will still spin as fast as the engine propels it. However, I wouldn't rely on my opinion in this case.

Well the power steering fluid lubricates the pump so personally I wouldn’t run it for any length of time. If your water pump is driven my a timing belt, could you remove the auxiliary belt to run the engine?
