I am planning to extend our bungalow up by putting a timber frame on first floor on top of the masonary ground floor. The ground floor is rendered and i wondered whether it was possible to render teh timber frame or if this would have too much movement/flexibility to not crack. Also, would the junction between masonary wall and timber wall create a problem area.

yes you can, yes it might although a bell cast here may sort that for you. The outer leaf of the extension could always be done in block and the inner leaf in timber frame.
