During the summer my 16in Wahl fan packed up - it started getting slower and slower and eventually the fan wouldn't turn.

I dismantled it and tested the circuits - current was flowing upto the capacitor linked to the motor when switched on at all speeds. I took the motor out and inspected it and it appeared OK.

Is it worth me trying to find out what is wrong / replacing the capacitor (not that I can find any Wahl parts anywhere) or should I just take the thing down to the dump?

Probably best to dump it but is the motor free running (could be bearings seized).

Capacitors pass a.c. and block d.c. (simplified)
