Is my Grundfos pump running properly?

Apologies for this very basic question, it's my first house with central heating). I've a Grundfos Selectric 15/50 pump in the airing cupboard which I'm sure is running all the time, it's always vibrating even when the boiler is off. Is this right? I found the white dial on the side and turning that stopped it. What's the dial for and what should it be set to? I've tried looking for an online guide to no avail.

There is usually a speed selector with three positions.

Normally the middle setting is correct.

If your pump runs all the time it implies a wiring or boiler fault !
