Is there a hinge that can do this?

Apologies for dumbing down the forum once again with my dumb questions!

I want to put one or two doors on a shallow shelving unit but I can't work out what hinges to buy or even if this is possible to do.

The door(s) would have to sit on the unit flush because there are dividers down the sides.

This is not the unit in the pic, but it's exactly this style so you can see what I mean.

I thought of buying some plywood and painting it.

Thanks footprints. Yes, of course, kitchen cupboard doors also sit on the outside of the cpd - duh! I warned you I was dumb.

I have a problem with those hinges, though: I don't think I will have enough depth for the big round bit because I will be making the doors from plywood.

Is there a more delicate, smaller, less bulky kind of hinge which is good for a lay-on door?
 
18mm mdf would give a better finish to paint.Or for perfect finish you could buy made to measure doors from a kitchen doors manufacturer in any style and finish you like.
 
When using concealed hinges you need to look at the crank ( a 15 crank is what you need if you want the doors to be flush- 0 crank is for doors that sit outside the unit).

The minimum depth of the hole is about 12mm so an 18mm door thickness will be fine.

You may also want to consider push openers so that you don't need to use handles.

On a large area like that ply would need to be 18 mm at least to be firm enough, it still might warp and finishing the edges is always a problem. MDF is more stable and easier to work and finish, but wear a mask as the dust can be very fine. Best bet is to find a store that will cut your boards to size. Home base still do in some stores, or go to a timber merchant, with a smile and a "pretty please" they are usually very helpful.☺
 
Thanks guys for all the replies. I have learned a bit about hinges now! I am staring at the graphic and I think I comprehend a bit but not 100%. Great idea about the push-opener, Opps! No knobs!
