Hi all,

I have a small kitchen and would like to remove the supporting wall and create a kitchen diner

I've had a structual engineer in who is in the process of working out the size of the RSJ required

I've had a quote from a builder for the following

Prop wall at ceiling height
remove wall and insert concrete padstones and steel
plasterboard ceilings
double plasterboard steel to meet regs
make good all electrical chases
plaster ceilings and walls (mostly skim)

It doesn't include the price of the steel

I live in the surrey/hants area

£1400

Is this quote about right?

Thanks !!

ive had a few builders round so far, one just gave an off the cuff quote without any detail and wouldnt do a writtern one until i said yes to him, he could start the next day too, surprisingly he wont be doing it, he did say £1100 for labour, plus materials

had a couple more builders who havent come back or returned my calls, everyone says that builders are short of work, but i seem to struggle to find any!! lol

plasterboard ceilings
whats the area of ceilings?

whats the area of wall to be removed?

cant give a guestimate without that info

bugger, put that info in the original post, but somehow the gremlins stole it !!!

the finished room will be approx 3.5m X 4.9m

the wall to be removed is approx 2.6m in length

thanks

I have just completed an infill job very similar to this but included a few other bits and bobs.

It took 2 men 1 week and i quoted £2150.

But that was one job and yours is another.

Ho hum, all quoting is subjective.

b*****r, put that info in the original post, but somehow the gremlins stole it !!!

£1400 is a very competitive quote for the sizes you have given!
