Is this Asbestos?

Also, why are there these 'ridges' of plaster like this on the wood? Does it provide insulation?
I think I might have answered my own question, now seeing this diagram.

It's horse hair plaster, asbestos fibres are much finer and barely visible individually.

The laths have gaps between them and the plaster was forced between them to make it grip before plasterboard was used.
Great, thanks :)
Although is there no danger that there is asbestos in the mix too?

There could be, but it's highly unlikely. The only way to be certain is professional analysis.

itsjust Lathing plaster nothing to worry about it only contains sand and lime, dont go eating it and you will be fine

If you have breathed in a few asbestos fibres, is there anything that can be done ?

I've stopped worrying about asbestos now, I've been exposed to so much of it over the last 30 odd years I think they'll have to cremate me but bury my lungs as they'll never burn!

Used to turn white, having put so much (asbestolux) through the circular saw without extraction......not to mention clutches and brake parts before they became asbestos free.
John :)

The real bad asbestos is the Blue or Brown. White is not good but not in the same ball park of the others.

Asbestos is asbestos what ever colour it's named, will still do the same damage.

On a slightly related note, this is one reason why everyone needs to fight the TTIP nonsense - if TTIP goes through, asbestos could make a return
