Is this asbestos?

Hello,

My wife and I are doing some renovations to an old house (1700s) which has had various bits of work done over its lifetime. We were in the loft yesterday breaking down an old lath and plaster version of a stud wall and exposed the ceiling covering for the part of their loft we were trying to open up. It looked odd enough of a substance that we got concerned that it might be asbestos, so we packed up and left the loft. We've tried looking around the internet and, disappointingly, it's difficult to find references and pictures for the various items that might contain the stuff. I've attached a photo, it looks like a thick fibreboard.

Does anyone have experience with asbestos products that could pass along an idea? We're planning on calling out a specialist anyhow but would appreciate some info before then if it's available.

Cheers,
James

I think you can get sampling kits online pretty cheaply, you send off a small piece and they test it.
Your photo looks like some kind of compressed fibre board to me.

Its probably insulation board, like sundeala but you csn send off and get it tested.

You just buy a kit online, about £40 they send you a box, gloves etc.

I came across similar stuff to that in a bungalow ceiling worried me a bit, the customer had it tested and it was OK but I think you are wise to get it tested.
