Hi,

I am looking at buying a 10yr old Galaxy. The ad says it has recently had a new Head gasket, Timing Belt, Water Pump and Drive Shaft. Is there likely to be an underlying problem that caused these failures or would the repairs mentioned have resolved the problem.

Many Thanks

ask the correct questions
like what else do you think needs looking at
why have you done all that work

a 10 year old galaxy will only be worth probably the work he has had done

It all comes down to price and mileage......
The vehicle won't be worth very much at best, but if its been well cared for it could be worth a punt.
There shouldn't be much rust - just one or two spots on the wheel arches.
It will be needing a clutch, almost certainly - and this is sobering if it needs a dual mass flywheel too.
It may need suspension work, causing the ride to be rattly and unsettled.
If its been to the moon and back, walk away. If its been a taxi at some time in its life, ditto.
Regarding the work it has had - all pretty conventional stuff really - it may have had overheating issues causing the head gasket to pop.
Problems? Noisy steering pump, non working aircon, non working interior heater, engine oil leaks.
Also to consider are the VW Sharan, and the Seat Alhambra.
John :)

Hi All,

Many thanks for the advice.
the car is priced 52 reg with 110k miles, priced at £1,000.
Any aa/rac check welcome.
Price seems a cheap to me and a £200 inspection is to much at this price.
