My extract fan in my ensuite is in a wall which has a void made for my soil pipe. Opposite the extract fan (about 300mm away) on the external wall is a clay air grille BUT it isn't connected to the fan. This is from new the house is about 20 years old.)
The owner before me has put a grille over the shower and run a flexible in the loft to another fan then the flexible is dropped down the soil pipe void hanging next to the external air grille. Is this common? cant help thing its putting moisture into my soil pipe void.

It sounds like a lash up yes.
If you work out the size of the holes in the air brick you may find it is undersized for a fan, I wouldn't be as concerned for a toilet fan but you definitely don't want warm moist air from a shower in there.
