Had a bathroom makeover around 4 months ago and yesterday discovered that just below a shelf in the airing cupboard there are 2 rubber/plastic pipes, each around 5 feet long supported only by the joints at each end. Both are hanging down and it seems that given the vibration from the pump together with gravity, the end result could be disastrous. My question is, is it legal to fit lengths of such pipes without supports between the joints at each end? Thank you.

Cheapest quote by any chance?

Andy
Not by a long shot Andy! At just under £16,000, it was £5,000 more than the original quote we got from another firm, took 4 months longer than scheduled for, and was a disaster from beginning to end. Of all the plumbing faults, the daddy of them all was when the plumber drilled through a wall into a radiator feed pipe the location of which was clearly marked on the surface of the plasterboard.

IMHO

The water regs are a statutory document ie. it's the law!

And to demonstrate a "workmanship" installation (reg 4 part 5/6) the installer should show compliance with standards such as...

BS 6700:2006 Design, installation, testing and maintenance of services supplying water for domestic use within buildings and their curtilages

Page 86 onwards but it looks like a typo on the clipping distance. Points 6.1.7.2 and 6.1.7.6 and Table 12 etc.

And then there are the pipe manufacturers installation documents..

Of course 99% of homes do not comply and the local water authority are only likely to prosecute with a serious offence.

Well within your rights to have them back and sort it at that price IMO, though I am a bit surprised it took 4 months to spot it!!
