Is this my stop cock? - Why is there not one per house...?

I might want to isolate my incoming water main to replumb the section before in internal stopcock, and ort to know where my stopcock is anyway incase I disturb it, however im a bit confused.

These pair are just outside my house at the bottom of the drive, slightly beyond being inline with my back wall where a 15mm comes out of the floor to my stopcock, but there doesnt appear to very many others, and certainly not one per house.

1940 council estate, mixture of semi's and short blocks of terraces.

Indeed! Just could do with knowing what they might do.

Dont ideally want to start isolating half of one side of the street trying to work out which is mine, nor leave it off im not the only one on it and mine is somewhere under my drive/garden covered over by the previous owner when he moved the drive over.
