Is this self levelling screed expensive?

You should be able to find latex self levelling compound on line for about 45p/kg. This is 60p/kg, so 33% dearer!

Will it offer the same properties as that which the company recommends for it work with the UFH system?

Not possible to say. You would need to check the max permissible thickness of alternative products to see if they could be used for the thickness tthat you require for your floor.

In any case, I feel very strongly that you should get a quote for pumped-screed as it likley won't be much more expensive and will save you days of back-breaking labour. You need to say that the quote is for UFH and you want an anhydride-screed and obviously what depth you want.

An alternative is to get a company to lay the screed and they will order the truck/mixture. The advantage here ( and I don't know how significant it is ) is that they will give you a quote with flatness tolerance: unsure how difficult it would be for an inexperienced "operator" to achieve same results if controlling the pouring operation himself.
