Is this the answer - finally

moosehead...i don't think that the AAV is the "cause" of the air in the system as it is in a acceptable position.
However fitting a new one will certainly help in removing any air in the system.
The AAV that you mention should be fine at least.

Thanks SMJ - I'll replace, I've got to nw anyway - it's leaking good and proper.

I was also concerned about position of pump between cold feed and three port. On reading other posts I though order was cold feed, vent, pump but I suppose in my case with a combined feed and expansion this is not the case.

Pehaps a nip around all the comp joints I can see , including the pump might be a good idea and then investiage more closely this laxadaisical rad.

Tks

Your pipe order is fine , though someone should have mentioned that for a combined feed and vent to work the pipe must be min 22mm.

Have you tried balancing the rads - see HOW TO BALANCE A CH SYSTEM in the Sticky section.

Thanks Chris.

Pipes are 22mm.

I have tried balancing but this one rad steadfastly refuses to get hot, just warm. maybe I'll give it another bash, failing that top up the inhibitor, wait 'til spring and get someone in to give the whole system a once over.

Thanks for advice.

I like the Flamco Flexvent AAV, because you can unscrew it from it's base for cleaning. It has a special sealing arrangement so that you don't have to drain down and you don't get a leak. Clever.

A point of interest on CH gases, although probably not to the professionals, I also spoke again with Fernox re inhibitors [see other post titled inhibitors] apparently mixing Fernox with SoNi inhibitors could possibly cause a reaction producing gases in the system i.e. not air. They have suggested I do a hydrogen test [taper to bleed vent] to ascertain whether residual inhibitor (Fernox) mixed with Everad may be causing a reaction.
I f aloud bang is heard in Chislehurst tonight I will have an answer.

Got home tonight to do the hydrogen test and - no air to bleed from system AND the lazy rad is beginning to heat up. I just filled the split hex nut on the AAV with temp putty leak repair last night. Not saying that was the reason for air in system before, but co-incidence?
Thanks Ricarbo for the Flamco tip - will be seeing plumbworld on Sat.
