Is vinyl flooring suitable to use instead of tiles in a shower?

Hi, I saw something very thin stuck to a wall round a shower today that looked like vinyl flooring.
It was very thin, unlike shower panels.

It seems quite a cheap / good idea.
Has anyone come across this before?

Could it be that stuff they use on hospital or dentist floors that curve up and firm a skirting all in one.
The corners look very neat, my guess that the person who lived there was someone who fitted those floors.
Not sure about the colour though. Like showering in a cave

Yes , flooring vinyl can be used in showers .

We used to do wet rooms for a couple of local councils.
They specified polyflor polysafe (non slip) welded joints corners ect.
Made a really good job.

This seems like a brilliant idea, much better than tiles and grout with all its potential penetration joints (the grout). Wish we had got our shower redone this way now (see my thread - leaking shower restyled ceiling). You could have a 'tiled' pattern and it would look almost the same I have seen this in restaurant toilets (e.g Costa Coffee) with the curved bottom corners.
Say goodbye to labour intensive tiling.

The likes of Altro vinyl are fine but you need specialist tools to "weld" the seams.

Yes they're not really DIYable and there is nothing like the range of finishes/colours there is for tiles, they're quite utilitarian as they're not really aimed at domestic users. A very practical solution though.

Yeah, the heat gun and kit alone is just shy of £700

I do have a sub £200 Steinel heat gun (with a digital control), I can purchase the welding attachments for about £40, but then would need to pay for the rest of the kit. A friend of mine who works with Altro told me that he considered my heat gun to be a toy. I reminded him that I am a decorator...

Apparently, Leister heat guns are the pro go to for that kind of work.
