Basicaly the question is do I have to (by law) have an isolation switch, for the fan oven I am going to install?
Currently it is going to be fed on a seperate feed from the MCB with no isolation switch, the problem is the location of an isolation switch as the only available space within arms reach is above the gas hob.
So if I can get away without one it would make life a bit easier.

Many thanks Dave

Sorry I cannot quote you chapter & verse on which reg covers this but any appliance has to be capable of being isolated from the electrical supply within a reasonable distance from the appliance. Installing it without that means would be stupid in the event of emergency of for required maintenance

What is a reasonable distance? If I don't put the switch above the hob the only other place is about 12 feet away, and the consumer unit is that far away as it is.

within reaching distance so probably no more than a metre & it has to be on open view ie. not in a cupboard.I cannot really understand why this is not achievable, can you post a pic?
