Oh look, there's a squirrel.

The great military strategist was absent when the British Army was teaching their soldiers about war crimes.
Or maybe he wasn't listening. Or maybe he would have just disregarded his training.
As a soldier, you are taught to respond to an order in a split second, if you receive a command and ignore it or suggest it may be illegal then the consequences will be far greater than carrying out the order. You don't question orders unless it is something so blatantly obvious that it is illegal,. Being briefed before going into a fight is one thing, that is a tick box excercise for the military to shift the blame onto you in the event it goes t***s up.

You're suggesting the war crimes were initiated by the top brass of the IDF.
OK, I thought that was a forgone conclusion. It's good to see you're onboard with that universal conclusion.

... is called "planning", and is done by those who are in a fuller possession of the facts and situation.

Otherwise, you could be lambs to the slaughter.
You do get briefed on the legalities and including your conduct as well as the relevant sections of the Geneva convention, when kills are registered you also undergo a debrief. It is very difficult for lawyers to determine war crimes let alone the average soldier, it is easier to simply follow orders as your CO is hardly likely to give you an illegal one knowingly. Everyone plays dumb.
